Microsoft has released new ISOs for insiders

Microsoft has just published new ISO images for insiders, allowing them to clean-install the upcoming Windows 10 October 2018 Update, also known as Redstone 5 and version 1809.

The new ISOs are for build 17744 and they are available right now from Microsoft’s Windows Insider Preview Downloads page here.

You need to log in with your Microsoft Account enrolled in the Windows Insider program to be able to download the new images.

There are three different ISOs offered to users, namely the standard image for build 17744, Windows 10 Insider Preview Enterprise, and Windows 10 Insider Preview Home China.

What’s new in this build?

The release of new ISOs come only a few days after Microsoft published build 17744 for insiders in the Slow ring. This is an approach that Microsoft has been using from the very beginning, releasing new ISOs whenever specific builds were promoted to the Slow ring.

This is typically a sign that builds are more refined and come with fewer bugs than the original release for the Fast ring, and this why ISOs allowing for a clean install are also published.

As for what’s new in build 17744, it’s important to know that we’re nearing the sign-off stage of the Redstone 5 update, so you won’t find any new features in here.

Instead, the focus is entirely on fixing bugs and refining performance. For example, Microsoft has addressed a bug causing Cortana to crash when launching tips and doing web searches, but also a glitch hitting Microsoft Edge and generating the contents of the app to become offset from the window frame.

These are all improvements that are supposed to prepare the Redstone 5 update for the public rollout, which according to recent leaks, should kick off in early October.

If everything goes according to the plan, the RTM build should be finalized later this month, while insiders could get it in just a few weeks ahead of everyone else.
