Microsoft has just shipped a new batch of cumulative updates for Windows 10 as part of the December 2020 Patch Tuesday cycle.

Just as expected, all Windows 10 versions are getting updates today, and since it’s Patch Tuesday, the focus is first and foremost on security improvements.

The following cumulative updates are live right now for Windows 10 devices:

Security improvements

According to the official changelogs, these new updates include patches for Microsoft Edge legacy, the Microsoft Graphics component, Windows Media, Windows Fundamentals, and Windows Virtualization.

In addition, Microsoft says it has resolved an important security vulnerability in Windows 10.

“Addresses a security vulnerability by preventing applications that run as a SYSTEM account from printing to "FILE:" ports. To address this issue in the future, make sure your applications or services run as a specific user or service account,” the company says in the release notes of the updates.

Windows 10 users can download the new updates straight from Windows Update, though it’s worth knowing that older releases are only serviced as part of LTSC or on Education and Enterprise SKUs.

At the time of writing, I’m not aware of any installation issues with these cumulative updates, but I’ll continue to keep an eye on reports in this regard and let you know if such problems are discovered. In the meantime, just make sure you create a backup should you decide to update your devices.
