In addition to the Galaxy Note 9, Samsung is also preparing to unveil the company’s new Galaxy Watch, and there’s a good chance both models see daylight on August 9 at the New York event.

Galaxy Watch is a rebranded version of the Gear S lineup, as Samsung has decided to make the switch to a name that makes more sense and has bigger marketing potential, especially considering the device is positioned as a rival to Apple Watch.

According to new details published on reddit, which allegedly come from a source close to a Samsung national trainer, the Galaxy Watch will be offered in two different dimensions, just like the Apple Watch, in order to suit both men and women.

The two sizes will be 46mm and 42mm, and it’s believed that Samsung has substantially reduced bezels for bigger screen estate. Apple Watch is offered in 42mm and 38mm, respectively, but starting with the upcoming Series 4, the Cupertino-based tech giant could also match the dimensions of Samsung’s new watch too.

Special color and longer battery life

Samsung also plans to launch a new rose gold color for the watch, possibly specifically aimed at women, so it may be available on the 42mm version only.

In terms of battery life, the South Korean firm has made some impressive upgrades, so it claims that the 46mm Galaxy Watch will last 7 days per charge. Obviously, this figure can drop substantially in the case of heavy users with features like GPS turned on for a longer period of time.

Galaxy Watch will also come with NFC to support Samsung Pay, and at the same time, will boast a particular focus on fitness tracking. The device will integrate no less than 40 workout modes, a welcome upgrade from the 10 activities that it currently supports on the Gear S3.

Shipments of the new smartwatch should begin later this month, possibly at the same time as those of the new Galaxy Note 9.
