It looks like two iconic horror games will receive movie adaptations in the not so distant future. Fatal Frame (titled Zero in Japan and Project Zero in Europe) and Silent Hill will be turned in horror movies by director Christophe Gans.

The information was revealed by Gans himself during an interview with Allocine, a French publication with a good track record when it comes to unreleased information. While this isn't the first Silent Hill movie, it's a big surprise that Konami has decided that it's worth revisiting the franchise.

I have two horror film projects with Victor Hadida. I'm working on the adaptation of the video game Project Zero (known as Fatal Frame in the United States, editor's note). The film will take place in Japan. I especially don't want to uproot the game from its Japanese haunted house setting. And we're also working on a new Silent Hill. The project will always be anchored in this atmosphere of a small American town, ravaged by Puritanism. I think it's time to make a new one.”

Christophe Gans was the director for the first Silent Hill movie release in 2006, but he is also responsible for Brotherhood of the Wolf, the second-highest-grossing French-language film in the United States since 1980. His most recent projects include the movies Beauty and the Beast (2014) and Corto Maltese (2019).

Victor Hadida, the producer who is helping Christophe Gans on Fatal Frame and Silent Hill, is known for Silent Hill, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Resident Evil: Extinction, Resident Evil: Afterlife, and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

Gans didn't say whether or not shooting has started, so there's no way to estimate when the two movies will be launched, but we're hoping for a 2021 release at best. We'll keep you in the loop on this one, so stay tuned.
