Capcom has just announced the second beta for the upcoming Monster Hunter World: Iceborne massive expansion will debut this Friday on PlayStation 4, while Xbox One players will be able to try out the game starting Monday.

More importantly, you won't need the Monster Hunter World base game to play the Iceborne beta. If you're playing on PlayStation 4, The Monster Hunter World: Iceborne beta will be available from 09:00 CEST on Friday, August 30 through 08:59 CEST on Monday, September 2.

If you're on Xbox One, the beta will be available from 09:00 CEST on Monday, September 2 through 08:59 CEST on Thursday, September 5. Furthermore, Capcom announced that preload options will be available a couple of days before each beta period begins, so you might want to check it out a few days before the weekend.

As far as the content offered, the beta will provide access to four quests, including the Elder Dragon Velkhana. Three of the quests – Great Jagras (Beginner), Banbaro (Intermediate) and Tigrex (Expert), were available in the first Iceborne beta, so the only new content for those who previously played the expansion is the four quest that lets them battle against the game’s mythical flagship monster Velkhana.

Also, just like in the previous beta sessions, hunters are given the chance to test out all 14 weapon types in any of the four quests and the training area. The weapons include the new Iceborne features, plus the new Slinger tool options such as the Clutch Claw grapple mechanic.

For those who are having second thoughts or simply don't want to spoil themselves before the game's release, it's worth mentioning that upon completing each quest for the first time, hunters can earn a total of four special commendation packs containing helpful consumable items.

These items gained in the beta sessions will be available to use in the full version of the Iceborne expansion when it releases for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 6, with a PC release to follow in January 2020.

For existing owners, the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne expansion is available as digital DLC for €39.99. Also, a Digital Deluxe version including both the expansion and a Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Deluxe Kit DLC of cosmetic items is available for €49.99.

Newcomers to the game can pre-order the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition containing both the main game and the Iceborne expansion for €59.99.
