The device could be announced at the October 2 event

One of the models that could receive some time at Microsoft’s upcoming hardware event on October 2 could be none other than the Surface Go, according to a recent discovery.

Basically, the event will witness the introduction of several new models, including the Surface Pro 7, which is one of the most anticipated products in the entire Surface lineup. Furthermore, Microsoft could unveil its dual-screen Surface at the show, alongside upgraded versions of the Surface Book and Surface Laptop.

But a recent Geekbench benchmark suggests that the Surface Go could also receive a refresh, as Microsoft might add a new processor option for a boost of power.

More expensive Surface Go

Specifically, the listing indicates that the new Surface Go could be powered by the Intel Core m3-8100Y processor, a worthy upgrade over the Pentium Gold 4415Y chip currently used on the device.

Such a processor upgrade on the Surface Go, however, wouldn’t be totally unexpected, especially because Microsoft itself considered using an m3 chip on the original model. Microsoft had to choose between several processor models when it developed the Surface Go, including an Intel Core m3-7Y30, but it eventually decided to pick the Pentium Gold version to keep the price as low as possible.

What would be interesting to find out is how Microsoft wants to offer this processor upgrade. If the company wants the Surface Go with an m3 chip to be positioned as a new generation, then other improvements are very likely as well, including in terms of design.

If not, then the new Surface Go might be nothing more than a hardware refresh, albeit such an approach could generate a price increase too. Full details will be shared by Microsoft directly at the Surface event next month.
