Microsoft has just released a new software update for Surface Duo, the company’s first and still only Android device right now.

The Surface Duo, which uses a dual-screen form factor, is currently available in a limited number of countries, but Microsoft is slowly but surely expanding its availability by adding more regions.

As a result, the company is also more committed to delivering timely software updates that include not only security improvements but also other bug fixes and optimizations supposed to refine the experience with the Surface Duo overall.

The most recent software update includes build 2021.314.91 in North America and 2021.314.93 in Europe and obviously comes with the latest security improvements for Android that were part of the April monthly cycle – as a side note, Microsoft says the update “addresses scenarios outlined in the Android Security Bulletin – April 2020,” but this is most likely an error and the company actually meant April 2021.

Then, the new software update improves device and UI stability, while also further polishing the performance when opening and closing apps, accessing recent apps, or swiping up to see all apps.

More bug fixes

Users who have previously come across issues with wallpapers on the Surface Duo are getting an important fix in this regard. Microsoft says the new update resolves a problem that caused the wallpaper to no longer show up after unlocking the Surface Duo.

And last but not least, Microsoft says the update also comes with additional notification polishing. The update “fixes the scenario where a notification badge appears on top of a running app and causes the screen to turn black,” as per the official changelog linked above.

Users are recommended to download and install the new software update as soon as possible, especially because security fixes are also included.
