14 DAY TRIAL // Final Fantasy VII Remake, the upcoming RPG developed and published by Square Enix is getting another set of stunning screenshots ahead of its 2020 release. The images are captured on a PlayStation 4, which makes sense considering the game will only be launched on Sony's gaming console.
Speaking of launch, Final Fantasy VII Remake is set to release on March 3, 2020. However, this will be just the first part of a series of multiple releases, which will happen throughout the next several years.
Unlike ports of the original game, this is a full remake built from ground-up, featuring polygonal graphics, not the pre-rendered environments of the original. Final Fantasy VII Remake will use Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4, not an in-house engine developed by Square Enix.
And the power of the Unreal Engine 4 is shown off in the latest screenshots released by the Japanese developer. Aside from the stunning visual improvements, many details about combat and other gameplay features are revealed in these images.
For example, we now know that each weapon has its own unique abilities that increase in proficiency the more they are used. When an ability's proficiency level is maxed out, that ability is then learned by the wielder and can be used when wielding any weapon. Also, the weapon upgrade screen has been completely redesigned and the different options are now more visible.
In Final Fantasy VII Remake, Chocobo & Moogle use their special move “Stampede” to run down the enemy with a herd of chocobos. Furthermore, players will be able to activate the Classic Mode from the difficulty menu, which can be disabled at any time during gameplay.
In Classic Mode, characters will act automatically, with the ATB gauge filling up as they do so. The only thing that players must do is select which abilities, magic, and items they will use their ATB charges for. Finally, two of the images reveal that we'll be able to play darts at the dartboard in Seventh Heaven.
