The game might be officially revealed on May 3

Earlier in the day, we got a rumor saying that developer Infinity Ward and publisher Activision were getting ready to announce the version of Call of Duty set to launch this year on May 3. It now seems that the two companies have also settled on a name for the coming shooter: Infinite Warfare.

The information comes from Reddit, where a user has posted an image from the PlayStation Store that seems to confirm that the name is used for a product listed on the official Sony-managed online content delivery service.

Of course, this could be just a placeholder, or simply an error on the part of the company, and the actual name of the shooter might be entirely different.

Activision has not offered any comment on the rumored moniker and will probably abstain from coming up with any sort of information until its chosen reveal date.

Jim Sterling, who has a good track record about leaks, previously posted an image from a brick-and-mortar retailer that suggested it was getting ready to offer some information, presumably a name and pre-order details, about the new Call of Duty on May 3.

Activision has only confirmed that it will talk about the first-person shooter at E3 2016, but an announcement next week will give it about one month to drum up interest and get fans keen on placing a pre-order for the title.

Call of Duty might be going to space

The name Infinite Warfare would make sense if, as rumored, the new video game takes place in the far future and introduces complex space battles and a space station that gamers will use as a hub between missions.

The development team at Infinity Ward has not talked about the title it is working on. It has only said that it wants to introduce some new features and believes that this will be the most interesting title in the franchise.

Call of Duty will be offered on the PC, the PlayStation 4 from Sony, and the Xbox One from Microsoft and will probably be delivered to gamers at some point in November.

Until then, Treyarch and Activision are set to deliver another two major downloadable content packs for the currently available Black Ops 3.

The Eclipse DLC and associated patch are now in the hands of those playing on the PlayStation 4 and will be offered on the other two platforms at some point in early May, with four new multiplayer maps and a new coop zombie episode.
