The development team at Gearbox is at the moment focusing on the launch of Battleborn and the extensive support that it wants to offer for the title, but it seems that once it deals with that, the free resources will be linked to another Borderlands title, although the name might not be the one fans expect.

Randy Pitchford, the chief executive officer of the company, is quoted by Gamespot as saying during a PAX East 2016 panel that, "Obviously, there is going to be another Borderlands. We don't even know if we're going to call it that."

Scott Kester, the art director, currently working on Battleborn, will be also involved with the next title in the very successful franchise and Mikey Neumann, the writer for the Brothers in Arms titles, is creating the narrative for the future of Borderlands.

It seems that the coming video game might have content linked to Scooter, who was introduced in Tales from the Borderlands, which was created by Telltale Games.

Apparently, references to the next Borderlands will also be part of the downloadable content packs that Gearbox is planning to introduce for Battleborn, although Randy Pitchford says that fans will have to look deeply at the content to discover them.

Borderlands 3 was first mentioned in 2015

Gearbox has said that the title will be the big one for the franchise and Take Two, the publisher in charge of the series, explained that it will create a title that uses the power of the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

The first title was introduced in 2009, with the sequel released in 2012 and a prequel offered in 2014.

Take Two says that more than 12 million copies of the three games were delivered to gamers, which is the highest total for a title published by Take Two.

Gearbox is launching Battleborn for the Pc, the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft on May 3.

The game will blend elements of the first-person shooter genre with concepts linked to the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena space, with 25 characters offered when the title first arrives and more set to arrive via DLC.

The developers say that they want to offer an interesting take on teamwork and an engaging progression system for all characters.

Five paid DLC deliveries are planned for Battleborn and free new content will also be created.
