After making its debut on PC last month, Neverwinter's most recent expansion – Infernal Descent is finally available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The latest major update for the free-to-play MMORPG set in the Forgotten Realms is based on Wizards of the Coast's D&D tabletop adventure Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus.

The expansion adds lots of new content, including a brand-new storyline, new characters, a new dungeon and adventure zone, as well as a new campaign. In Infernal Descent, players will follow the tragic story of the Vallenhas family stronghold which brings a new series of adventures.

The main objective of the campaign is to prevent the ruthless archdevil Zariel’s plan to sacrifice hundreds of innocent souls. Players will be able to adventure into the new areas with two new heroes, the Paladin Alric Vallenhas and the Bard Etrien Sael, along with old and unexpected allies.

It's also worth noting that the new endgame campaign has been specifically crafted for level 80 characters, and adds a vast adventure zone with heroic encounters and a new challenging endgame dungeon set in a devil’s citadel right above Avernus. Other notable Descent Into Avernus-themed additions include unique story instances, new fiendish enemies, equipment, and more.

The new Neverwinter characters, Paladin Alric Vallenhas, a once righteous paladin who wishes to redeem himself, and Bard Etrien Sael, a protector of innocents who’s loyal to the Vallenhas family, are meant to offer help and flavor to players embarking on this new epic adventure.

While exploring the new Vallenhas Estate adventure zone, players will be forced to fight against the evil spawn of the Lower Planes, such as new demons, devils and infernal war machines, as well as experience heroic encounters.

Last but not least, the new Infernal Citadel dungeon is set in a deadly devil’s citadel that floats above Avernus, and should provide an epic challenge that will put adventurers skills to the test.
