The packet landed on a dog kennel, destroyed it

It's raining cats and dogs, the saying goes. Well, it just so happens that, every once in a while, even weirder things fall from the sky.

Earlier this month, for instance, nearly 24 pounds (11 kilograms) of marijuana neatly arranged in a perfect bundle dropped to the ground in the city of Nogales in Arizona.

The packet fell on a family's property

The flying marijuana bundle, estimated by law enforcement officers to be worth around $10,000 (nearly €9,000), fell from the sky on September 8, early in the morning. It fell through a couple's carport and then crash landed on their dog's kennel, destroying it.

Maya and Bill Donnelly say they remember that, while sleeping, they heard a loud noise outside, near their home. However, they assumed it was just a thunder and so didn't get out of bed to investigate what had happened.

When she finally woke up later that day, Maya Donnelly went out to have a look around the house. Much to her surprise, she found the family's carport had a sizeable hole in it and their dog's kennel was pretty much destroyed.

Among its remains, the woman found the marijuana packet. The couple contacted local authorities who, after one close look at the evidence, told them what they already suspected: a bundle of weed had in fact fallen from the sky smack on their property.

An investigation into this incident is ongoing

Law enforcement officers suspect the marijuana package dropped either from a small plane or from an unmanned aerial vehicle while somebody was trying to smuggle it into the country. An investigation is ongoing, but the weed's rightful owners are yet to be identified and brought to justice.

As for Maya and Bill Donnelly, they're just glad their dog, Hulk, wasn't anywhere near the kennel or the carport when the package fell to the ground.

“Thank goodness [Hulk] is a wanderer at night and was not in his house,” Maya Donnelly told the press in an interview, as cited by RT. “He was probably at the gate watching the plane go by,” she added.
