Report says Jimmy Fallon has a drinking problem and NBC bosses want him to keep it in check

Last weekend, during a Harvard Lampoon event that awarded him with the Elmer Award for Excellence in Humor, Jimmy Fallon tripped, fell and cut his hand on a bottle of alcohol he was holding. This was his second, highly mediated hand injury this year, prompting talk that he might have a drinking problem.

The injury sustained was a trifle compared to the one that almost cost him his finger this summer: Fallon was then in his kitchen when he tripped, and his wedding band got caught on the counter, nearly slicing off his finger. Apparently, this type of accident isn’t rare: it’s called ring avulsion, and it’s very serious.

Jimmy Fallon is a drunk, reports say

Jimmy Fallon is, at best, very prone to accidents, and at worst, a drunk for whom the situation is getting out of control. That’s what celebrity pundits and bloggers rushed to say after word of his second accident got out online.

No one can be this unlucky without alcohol being a factor. The fact that Fallon cut his hand on a bottle of booze couldn’t have been a strange coincidence either.

In a matter of hours, the entire blogosphere was buzzing about a possible alcohol issue Fallon was dealing with and which might require him to take some time out to get under control.

Fallon himself has said nothing regarding the rumors, and NBC, the network he’s working for, is also keeping mum. But that’s not to say that they’re not taking action, Radar Online claims.

NBC bosses want Fallon in rehab

An inside source tells the celebrity publication that Fallon does have a drinking problem as speculated online. Even though he’s managed to keep it from interfering with his work until now, network bosses don’t like the attention his booze-related accidents are getting.

NBC Entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt and Tonight Show Executive Producer Lorne Michaels have spoken to Fallon about it and possibly made it clear that they expect him to go to rehab, or else find a way to continue partying as before without word of it getting out in the media, claims the report.

“Jimmy shows up for work, on time, and is always a professional,” one network spy says, “but there’s still growing concern. The NBC family adores Jimmy, but Bob is monitoring the situation. If he needs to intervene, it will be done.”

As for whether the latest incident was alcohol-related or not, another tipster says there’s no room for doubt: Fallon was “definitely drunk” when he fell.
