Set for release in the second half of the year

Grotto is the name of the game coming from developer Brainwash Gang, the same studio that recently announced the upcoming release of Nongunz: Doppelganger Edition. The Madrid-based developer is also responsible for The Longest Road on Earth, a life-simulation game that should be out sometime in 2021.

As expected, Grotto is a fantasy narrative game with a focus on choices. The game will be launched for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in the second half of the year. In Grotto, players take the role of the Soothsayer, a mysterious hermit who resides in the titular cave and is called upon to read the stars and provide counsel to a primitive tribe.

Some of us have a genuine interest in divination and have tried different techniques over the years. We like the idea of people's lives being influenced by something as abstract as the interpretation of the stars. With Grotto, we hope players will become aware that the extraordinary powers of the protagonist come from their own empathy when deciding on the life of the tribe,” said Brainwash founder and developer Edu Verzinsky.

Since the Soothsayer can talk with the stars and translate their messages, the tribe of the valley turn to your powers of divination and come to you for guidance. Their fate will change depending on your auguries. You can either overthink every constellation or let the stars freely enter your mind.

On paper, Grotto seems very weird and since the announcement trailer doesn't show any footage of the gameplay, it's hard to say what's this all about. We do know that the game features a visual style the mixes 2D and 3D art, but other than that, it's all a mystery.

If you're just as curious as we are, you can wishlist Grotto on Steam right now. We'll report about the game once the folks at Brainwash Gang reveal its release date.
