In case you are a bus driver or any sort of large, rugged carrying vehicle that needs surveillance, the MX1000 from Logic Supply is the right NVR (Network Video Recorder) for you.

Surveillance machines are a very specialized class of devices. Very discrete, hidden or tucked somewhere out of sight that receive the signal of many cameras littered around a building or the inside of vehicle, like buses, they usually are the quintessential data hubs of different security companies when video footage must be stored, or extracted.

The MX1000 is, however, specialized on vehicular video monitoring. It's placed somewhere near the driver, in a place quite heated because of engine heat or any other heat source, and will keep recording video data sent by cameras even in the most dire thermal situations.

Resisting heat of up to 60 degrees Celsius and being ignition-sensitive, the MX1000 will start video recording the moment your car engine starts. Feeling at home in cars, trains and buses, it also has the EN 50155/50121 certifications to prove it.

Built to take anything you throw at it

The inside specs of the MX1000 are convincing as well. It features a Quad-Core i7-4770TE processor and 8GB of DDR3 memory, the MX1000 is perfectly equipped for the most demanding applications and can feature up to 25 cameras. It also comes with four Gigabit PoE (Power over Ethernet) ports that will power your cameras as well as sending and receiving video data from them.

Additionally, the MX1000 has multiple USB and COM ports for peripheral support and with dual 2.5" storage drives can support up to 2TB of data in its rugged chassis. Also a very useful feature is its SIM Card slot that allows the machine to send distress SMS or any other form of message via smartphones in case an emergency takes place.

As "operating system," the MX1000 comes with the Milestone XProtect® Professional 2014 (8.6d) surveillance software that won't include any software or camera licenses.

Overall, this device is an extremely useful video surveillance hub that will find its place in any, not only vehicular, rugged environment. Its main disadvantage is, however, the price. At $3,649 (€3,346) it's a bit too expensive for some wallets. When planning to make serious surveillance investments in your automotive fleet, NVR prices are an issue. But if you can afford the MX1000, it will offer excellent reliability and enough ruggedness to last you to hell and back.
