In January 2016, Fox is bringing back “The X-Files” for a limited revival event, but in the process, it will also be splitting the most popular duo of FBI agents ever to have worked on a fictional case, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Though the first teaser trailer for the series (see below) shows the 2 together in familiar circumstances (dark empty rooms, flashlights and guns in hand, having each other’s back), the one shown at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Beverly Hills hinted at serious trouble.
Mulder and Scully, played by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, are no longer a team. Moreover, EW says, they’re shown having a huge fight, with Scully telling her former partner she’s his “friend and physician” but no longer his partner.
“We checked with a source close to Fox who confirmed that, indeed, the two are no longer together,” the report continues. “Interestingly, in the clip Mulder was trying to convince Scully that a certain un-referenced conspiracy had nothing to do with aliens, but was rather a conspiracy of men.”
So what could possibly happen to break these 2 up when so many strange and dangerous things couldn’t? Before you panic, the photo attached to this blog post is from June and was snapped on the set on the first days of production.
You will notice that Mulder is in civilian clothes, while Scully isn’t. Rumor has it that he does something bad and is kicked off the force, but will eventually talk his way back in.
In other words, yes, Scully and Mulder break up on the show, but it’s only for a short while.
