Mozilla Thunderbird is often described as one of the best (or even the best) email clients out there, and it’s no wonder why. However, while we won’t discuss the feature arsenal that makes it such a great app, here’s something that’s even more exciting.

Thunderbird is projected to receive a major overhaul with the release of version 102, which according to the current release calendar, should go live in late June.

In an announcement on Twitter, the official Thunderbird account revealed that version 102 will introduce a new Spaces Toolbar, a new address book, link preview cards in emails, a new account setup hub to make the process of setting up new accounts more straightforward, a message header redesign, native import and export support, and Matrix support.

New features in Thunderbird 102

The new Spaces Toolbar is supposed to make working with everything in Thunderbird a lot more convenient.

“The new Spaces Toolbar is an easy, convenient way to move between different activities in the application. Such as managing your Email, your contacts via address book, using the calendar and tasks functionality, chat, and other full-tab activities (add-ons too!),” Thunderbird explains.

The new address book is also getting a refresh, and to be honest, not only that it looks a lot more modern, but it also includes new features to easily reach out to a specific contact right from within the app.

“After a couple of release teasing a new address book - it's coming in this release. Not only is there a design that makes it easier to navigate and interact with your contacts. but new features enable you to better understand who you communicate with,” Thunderbird notes.

Needless to say, those who want to try out all these improvements early can always download beta and nightly builds, though as usual, be warned they come with an increased likelihood of bugs.
