A new version of the browser is live on the desktop

Mozilla Firefox has remained one of the few alternatives to the invasion of Chromium-powered browsers, and needless to say, every single update it receives can provide users out there with another good reason to stick with the app in the long term.

Mozilla has recently released Firefox 99 on all supported desktop platforms, but this time, the update isn’t necessarily as significant as you’d expect it to be.

It indeed introduces some improvements, but on the other hand, the number of new features that are included is less impressive for those who’re used to big updates.

Firefox 99, for example, supports credit card autofill and capture in Germany and France, with the browser also supporting toggling Narrate in ReaderMode with the keyboard shortcut “n.”

Mozilla says it has also added support for search in the PDF viewer, and this feature can work with and without diacritics. And last but not least, Firefox 99 comes with security improvements for Linux users.

“The Linux sandbox has been strengthened: processes exposed to web content no longer have access to the X Window system (X11),” Mozilla explains.

Known issue in Firefox 99

On the other hand, Mozilla warns of a Zoom bug that is yet to be unresolved.

“Gallery mode in the Zoom web client is now accessible in Firefox 99. Display of video is not always working with breakout rooms in gallery mode. When a user of the Zoom web client enters a breakout room, one's self view and of other participants may not appear. Leaving the breakout room and re-entering it should resolve the issue,” the company explained.

Firefox 99 also comes with the typical security fixes, so users out there are recommended to update the browser to the latest version as soon as possible.

The first minor revision to the app should theoretically land the next week at the earliest.
