New version of the browser receives the go-ahead

Mozilla has just released the very first update for Firefox 69, with the focus obviously on polishing this major version and addressing the bugs discovered in the last couple of weeks.

Firefox 69.0.1 is thus available for download on all supported desktop platforms, namely Windows, Linux, and macOS. The official release notes aren’t yet available given the new build was only recently been published on Mozilla’s servers, but I expect more information to surface in the coming hours.

However, what’s important to keep in mind is that version 69.0.1 doesn’t bring any new features, and it’s entirely a release that only resolves bugs in Firefox 69.

As TechDows notes, one of the bugs being resolved in this release is likely the one causing some external programs to launch in the background when clicking a link inside Firefox. Additionally, Firefox 69.0.1 is likely to bring usability improvements for the add-ons manager in the case of users with screen readers active within the browser.

More frequent Firefox updates

Mozilla has recently announced that Firefox updates would be released at a faster pace, as it wants major new versions to land every four weeks.

This means that minor releases like today’s are also expected to see daylight at an accelerated pace as well, especially as Mozilla would have to resolve bugs faster than according to the current schedule.

“Given a shorter Beta cycle, support for our pre-release channel users is essential, including developers using Firefox Beta or Developer Edition. We intend to roll out fixes to them as quickly as possible. Today, we produce two Beta builds per week. Going forward, we will move to more frequent Beta builds, similar to what we have today in Firefox Nightly,” Mozilla says.

We’ll update the article with the full release notes for version 69.0.1 when they become available.
