New major release of the browser up for grabs

Mozilla has just released Firefox 62 for all supported desktop platforms, and users can download it right now using the links below.

What’s important to know is that updating to the new version using the built-in updating engine may not be possible at this point, as Mozilla published the new installers on its servers only a few minutes ago.

It could take a few more hours until Firefox 62 becomes available through all channels, but in the meantime, it’s still available as a direct download.

What’s new in Firefox 62

The new version of Firefox comes with Sync improvements, allowing users who disconnect the service to remove data like bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and cache.

Furthermore, the hamburger menu now comes with options to toggle Tracking Protection on and off, while the three-pane Inspector in Developer Tools has its own panel for rules.

More important for regular users is the improved New tab configuration screen. Starting with this version, the new tab page can be configured to display top sites, highlights, and Pocket data, with options to select how many rows of data to be shown.

One very useful improvement is the addition of an option called Clear Site Data and Cookies that is located right next to the address bar to allow users to delete data for the loaded website. This means data for one specific page can be easily removed at any point, without the need for cleaning files for an entire browsing session.

Needless to say, there are several other small refinements, such as the description field of bookmarks being removed completely and other fixes, so overall, the experience with the browser should be much improved in this new version.

You can download Mozilla Firefox 62 for Windows, Linux, and macOS from Softpedia right now.
