The browser has just received another major update

Mozilla has recently released a new version of Firefox, and given this is a major update, it obviously comes with some pretty big changes as well.

Firefox continues to be the only major alternative to Chromium-powered browsers, and given Chrome is already the leading choice worldwide and Edge is offered as the default choice in Windows, Mozilla’s application is the third browser in global rankings.

This isn’t necessarily a problem for Firefox, as its userbase is as solid as ever, and the updates that the company ships help refine the overall experience with the browser even further.

Version 109, which is now available for download on all supported platforms, enables the Manifest Version 3 (MV3) extension support by default, though worth knowing is that version 2 continues to be both supported and enabled in the browser. However, Mozilla is also introducing a new extensions button to mark this big change.

Then, the company says it has also enabled the Arbitrary Code Guard exploit protection for media playback utility processes, as this should lead to enhanced security for Firefox users who are running the browser on Windows.

And last but not least, the company says Firefox 109 also comes with two other changes in terms of accessibility and locales.

“The native HTML date picker for date and datetime inputs can now be used with a keyboard alone, improving its accessibility for screen reader users. Users with limited mobility can also now use common keyboard shortcuts to navigate the calendar grid and month selection spinners. Firefox builds in the Spanish from Spain (es-ES) and Spanish from Argentina (es-AR) locales now come with a built-in dictionary for the Firefox spellchecker,” Firefox says.

As every Firefox update, version 109 also includes a batch of security fixes, so you are recommended to install the new version on your device as soon as possible.
