A new version of Firefox is live on the support platforms

Mozilla has just released a new version of Firefox for all supported platforms, and this time, the app comes with several notable changes.

First and foremost, Firefox 102 can now mitigate query parameter tracking with navigating sites in ETR strict mode, as announced by Mozilla in the official release notes.

For many users, however, the biggest changes is the support for disabling the automatic opening of the download panel when a new download starts.

In other words, Mozilla is further refining the behavior that was introduced in Firefox 98, thus giving users more control over the way downloads are handled. Users can configure the download panel to automatically open and also choose whether files should be saved to a specific downloads folder or see a prompt to choose the destination folder.

“The files you download will be immediately saved on your disk. Depending on the current configuration, they will be saved in your preferred download folder, or you will be asked to select a location for each download. Windows and Linux users will find their downloaded files in the destination folder (this is usually the Downloads folder). They are no longer put in the Temp folder first,” Mozilla explains.

Security improvements also part of this update

Firefox 102 also comes with new accessibility refinements.

“When using a screen reader on Windows, pressing enter to activate an element no longer fails or clicks the wrong element and/or another application window. For those blind or with very limited vision, this technology reads out loud what is on the screen, and users can adapt them to their needs (now, on our platform, without errors),” Mozilla says.

Of course, there are also several other bug fixes, as well as security improvements, so users are recommended to download and install the new version of Firefox as soon as possible.
