Google released the final version of its latest Android OS about a month ago, but some time must pass until smartphone manufacturers will make updates available. A few days ago, the Android 7.0 update road map for Sony smartphones leaked, and today, information about Moto devices was made available.

Droid-Life reports that Motorola's Moto Z series and Moto G4 smartphones will be receiving Android 7.0 Nougat updates sometime in the next quarter. The information is rather vague considering that a quarter stretches over three months.

This means that the Moto G4 and Moto Z smartphones will be getting Android 7.0 updates as soon as October, although that's highly unlikely. The updates might hit as late as the last month of this year.

The report doesn't specify which smartphones will actually get the update, as the two lines do incorporate many models, including the Moto Z, Moto Z Droid, Moto Z Force, Moto Z Force Droid, Moto Z Play, Moto Z Play Droid, Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus, and Moto G4 Play.

Motorola will share upgrade plans for other smartphones soon

It's unclear at this point when smartphones in older Moto series, like the Moto X or Moto G, will get the update. Motorola did mention that its upgrade plans for other smartphone models and specific timing would be shared later.

Motorola's Moto Z line is one of the most important series from the company, considering that it integrates the Moto Z, Moto Z Force and Moto Z Play. It also comes with MotoMods, which are modular accessories that provide additional functionality to phones, including enhanced camera capabilities and additional battery power.

Moreover, Motorola recently announced that it released the MotoMod developer kit with tools for developers to create their own personalized MotoMods for Moto Z smartphones. Currently, Android 7.0 Nougat runs only on Nexus smartphones part of the Developer Preview program, but it will be made available to other smartphones in the next few months.
