After soak-testing Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Moto G (2nd Gen) in several countries, Motorola has just announced it has kicked off the rollout of the update.

If you own the budget-friendly Moto G (2nd Gen), now would be a good time to check for the update by heading to Settings / About phone / System updates.

Keep in mind that in order to be eligible for this update, your Moto G (2nd Gen) smartphone should not be rooted. Also, your handset should be updated to the latest stock Android 5.0.2 Lollipop operating system.

If your Moto G (2nd Gen) runs a custom ROM, you will have to flash the corresponding latest stock Android 5.0.2 Lollipop via PC before upgrading to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Motorola also confirmed that the update is pushed OTA (over the air) in batches, so some Moto G (2nd Gen) users might get the update earlier than others. The following Moto G (2nd Gen) models are eligible for this update: XT1063, XT1064, XT1068, and XT1069.

Some Motorola apps will be removed

Aside from the usual improvements and new features included in Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Motorola added its own changes for Moto G (2nd Gen).

For example, Motorola integrated Moto Assist into other places like Sleeping and Meeting where users can keep their phone quiet while they sleep or are too busy to answer any calls.

Also, Driving and Home benefits from another Assist integration, which allows the phone to read messages and calls out loud when you drive or are at home.

Some features have been removed, among them being Motorola Migrates, which will no longer be offered on devices running Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Motorola Alert has been removed as well after the upgrade, but the application will be available for download from the Google Play Store if you choose to continue to use it.
