The company offers discounts for these phones to compensate

Bad news for Motorola fans who still own the DROID Ultra, Maxx and Mini smartphones, as the US-based company announced these devices would not receive any major software updates from now on.

Motorola's David Schuster confirmed that these three DROIDs would not be getting Android Lollipop upgrades in the coming months, but that doesn't come as a surprise since all have been released on the market almost three years ago.

“We apologize that we will not be upgrading DROID Ultra/Mini/Maxx to Android Lollipop, as we had hoped. We know how important software upgrades are to our customers, and we're very sorry that we are unable to provide the upgrade,” said Motorola's David Schuster in a Google+ post.

All three DROIDs exclusively available in the US at Verizon Wireless are now stuck on Android KitKat and will remain so until end of life status.

Naturally, there are unofficial ways to bring your old DROIDs to newer versions of Android, but do it only if you're really into rooting smartphones.

Upgrade to a newer DROID and take advantage of a promo offer

There is some good news too. Those who own either of the three smartphones will be pleased to know that Motorola offers some discounts to compensate the fact that DROID Ultra, Maxx and Mini won't be updated to Android Lollipop.

So, DROID Ultra, DROID Maxx and DROID Mini owners can now register for special pricing on two of Motorola's most recent smartphones: DROID Turbo 2 and DROID Maxx 2.

The DROID Turbo 2 is available for just $524 (from $624) while the DROID Maxx 2 costs just $334 (from $384) outright.

Keep in mind that this promotion will end on May 19, so hurry up if you plan on getting advantage of this offer. It also worth mentioning that the promotion code can be redeemed by June 2.
