Motorola is expected to announce new smartphones in the Moto Z series this year, and information about the upcoming Moto Z2 phones is already available. Now, a new render reveals the back panel for the Moto Z2 Play, together with a number of Style Mods.

The Moto Z2 Play portrayed in the render from SlashLeaks comes in the Lunar gray color variant, while the Style Mods appear to be provided in five colors with seemingly different textures. All Style Mods have the M logo on the back and are made to fit both this year’s and last year’s Moto Z phones.

This means that the Moto Z2 Play will have the same size as last year’s model and the render does show the connector pins on the back, so that Moto Mods and Style Mods can be attached easily. Aside from Style Mods, Motorola is also expected to announce a number of Moto Mods together with this year’s phones. The design of the Moto Z2 Play is expected to stay roughly the same, with some minor changes.

4GB of RAM inside and a lower battery capacity

In terms of hardware, specs will be somewhat similar to last year’s Moto Z Play, the successor will have a 5.5-inch display with increased brightness levels and will run Snapdragon 626 platform inside. RAM capacity is expected to reach 4GB, while internal storage might be 64GB. Last year’s Moto Z Play had a large battery capacity of 3,510mAh, but reportedly, Motorola intends to lower the capacity to 3,000mAh.

The smartphone is also expected to have a 12MP sensor on the back, with f/1.7 aperture and dual-focus pixels, together with a 5MP camera in the front with dual-tone LED flash. Aside from Lunar Gray, the Moto Z2 Play will also come in Fine Gold color option and will most likely be announced later this year. Android Nougat will run out of the box on the Moto Z2 Play, Moto Z2 Force and Moto Z2 smartphones that Motorola intends to unveil this year.
