Many carriers and smartphone manufacturers are working on providing Android Nougat updates to their phones, and some have even started testing the update. Just recently, Samsung started rolling out 7.0 Nougat to its unlocked Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.

Motorola is currently working on the Nougat software update for the Moto Z Play, released last year soon after the company’s Moto Z and Moto Z Force were announced. Recently, Motorola has announced on its official Twitter account that the Moto X Play from 2015 will receive its Nougat update at the end of this month.

But it won’t be the only update to a Moto phone, the unlocked version of Moto Z Play will be welcoming the Nougat update at the end of this month. Only two weeks are left until European owners of Moto Z Play will get the update.

Locked Moto Z Play at Koodo Mobile to get the update in March

Motorola is already testing the Nougat update for the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. Unlocked versions of the Moto Z Play will get the update sooner than units sold by carriers, as the latter usually take a bit more to test all compatibility features and solve issues that might result from the update.

The Nougat update for the Moto G4 is also said to arrive this month for European unlocked units. Canadian owners of Moto Z Play phones bought from local carrier Koodo Mobile can except to receive the update on March 4, according to the carrier’s website. However, the date is approximate and subject to change, which means that Koodo Mobile could push out the update sooner or later.

The unlocked Moto Z Play currently sells for $399 in the US, as a mid-ranger phone with support for Moto Mods and a long-lasting battery. The phone has a 5.5-inch FHD AMOLED display and runs an octa-core 2.0GHz Snapdragon 625 processor with 3GB of RAM. It also has a 16MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP camera in the front with f/2.2 aperture. Battery capacity reaches 3,510mAh.
