It will take longer to propagate than previous updates

The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus have already been updated to Android 7.0 Nougat in Europe and other parts of the world, but customers in the United States have been skipped from the initial rollout.

However, at least one carrier in the US has announced that the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus are now eligible for an Android 7.0 Nougat soak test build recently released by Motorola.

Since this is a Maintenance Release soak, it will be progressively deployed over a longer period of time than previous updates, so expect to take longer than usual for it to be available to everyone.

If you own the Moto G4 or Moto G4 Plus, you should head over to Apps / Settings / System updates and tap on the Update Motorola software option. If the soak doesn't show on your phone, you can try again later.

According to Republic Wireless carrier, the update features build number NPJ25.93-13, so this is what you should be looking for when checking for Android 7.0 Nougat on the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus.

The update should bring quite a lot of new features such as the option to quickly switch between apps (multitasking), multi-window view, as well as work mode for Android for Work users. Many improvements like data saver, enhanced Doze mode and JIT compiler will be added too.

Motorola included some of its own tweaks into the update, such as the new Moto action that allows users to swipe to shrink the screen.

For the Moto G4 Plus, Motorola added a new setting to disable and enable locking the screen when the display is on and the user touches the fingerprint sensor.

The new fingerprint reader for display lock setting can be found by going to the Settings menu from the app tray, scrolling down to Security, and tapping on the screen lock gear icon.
