The developers at NetherRealm Studios that created Mortal Kombat X is announcing that it is planning to introduce a new and improved take on the multiplayer side of the fighting game and that it wants dedicated fans of the title to help with the testing process to make sure that it offers the best possible experience.

On January 19, all those interested will be able to sign up for access, according to the official forum announcement, and the studio says that the first implemented changes will be the upgraded network code and the tweaked input handling.

The aim is to make the online component of Mortal Kombat X feel like the offline one when it comes to lag, allowing gamers to battle their friends without any frustration.

Initially, the testing will only involve four characters, Cage, Sub-Zero, Scorpion and Briggs, with more added as the phase progresses on the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft.

Initially, a small group of players will be accepted in the beta, but as NetherRealm Studios makes progress, they will give access to all those who have played at least one hour of multiplayer in the fighting title.

The game makers also want the community to be structured when it comes to feedback so that it's easy to make sure that their feedback is integrated into the coming improvements.

Fans have been expressing frustration about this side of the title since it was launched, and it is nice to see the developers respond by pledging to improve significantly the experience in 2016 via a free update.

At the moment, it is unclear when the updated network code and upgraded mechanics will be launched for Mortal Kombat X, but they will presumably arrive before new DLC.

NetherRealms is also preparing to launch Leatherface, Xenomorph, Tri-Borg and Bo Rai Cho

Recently the studio delivered a new trailer for the Combat Pack 2, which is designed to introduce a range of new content to the game so that it stays relevant as the rival Street Fighter V from Capcom is getting ready for launch.

The DLC will include access to Goro, who was initially only offered for those who place a pre-order, as well as a range of skins that include Futbol Cage, Capoeira Liu Kang, Gaucho Kung Lao, Motherland Sonya, Tundra Sub-Zero, Revolution Kano and Kold War Scorpion.

An Apokalypse back is also coming to tweak the appearance of Takeda, D'Vorah, and Erron Black.

The new characters include the Xenomorph from Aliens, with some truly gruesome attacks, as well as Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and more traditional fans will be able to play using Tri-Borg, who is a combination of other robot characters featured in the franchise, as well as the drunken king-fu master Bo Rai Cho.

No price has yet been announced for the second Kombat Pack for Mortal Kombat X, and it's unclear exactly when gamers get access to it.

NetherRealm has said that it will keep adding new fighters to the game as long as there's a solid community engaged in both solo and multiplayer battles.
