Mortal Kombat 11 is the next chapter in one the longest running franchises that are still around, and it’s scheduled to be released on April 23, 2019.

Pretty much any gamer heard about Mortal Kombat, even if it was just in passing. Maybe they’ve seen some of the movies, or they played the games as a kid. Either way, it’s one of those games that don’t really need any kind of introduction because you know that it’s going to be good.

Surprisingly, Mortal Kombat is not the only game of its kind to have survived for so long, and we’ve seen a few new ones making an appearance. If anything, the fighting gaming genre is seeing a revival, and now Mortal Kombat 11 continues this trend.

More variation promised

Users today are no longer satisfied with a simple roster of characters, and not even the promise of a few hidden ones is enough. They need variation, and the developers from NetherRealm Studios have implemented a new Custom Character Variation System that promises to keep thing interesting.

“It’s exciting to finally announce Mortal Kombat 11 and showcase what the team has been working on,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios. “Our Custom Character Variation System opens up an infinite amount of options for players to personalize their favorite fighters. We can’t wait until January when we’ll be showing more of the game.”

Furthermore, Mortal Kombat 11 also promises to continue the story, although I’m pretty sure that very few people actually followed it. In any case, it’s good to see that the story is still present because it creates a backbone for the entire experience.

Unfortunately, no gameplay has been until now, but the reveal is scheduled for January 11, during a special event organized by NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive.

The Mortal Kombat 11 Standard and Premium Editions are already available for preorder, for all supported platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Also, the Premium Edition will include the Kombat Pack, although that package hasn’t been detailed, and all user who preorder the game, no matter the edition, will receive Shao Kahn as a playable character.
