The fine folks over at NetherRealm Studios recently revealed a new chapter in the Mortal Kombat saga. Before you get too excited, let's clarify that this is not Mortal Kombat 12 as some fans hoped to be.

Instead, the developer behind the critically-acclaimed franchise unveiled a brand-new DLC for Mortal Kombat 11 called Aftermath. Unlike many of the previous DLCs, Aftermath lets players fight through a completely new story campaign that starts from where the base game left off.

Those who didn't finish Mortal Kombat 11's story campaign will still have some benefits if they decide to purchase the upcoming DLC. Aftermath introduces three new playable characters: Fujin, the God of Wind, Sheeva, the Shokan warrior, and the iconic Robocop.

Fujin can walk on air and comes armed with a sword and crossbow, while Sheeva attacks with a deadly bladed shield and brutal grappling moves. Robocop, the highly advanced cybernetic police officer comes to fight with his famous Auto 9 and an arsenal of technological weaponry.

But wait, there's more! NetherRealm Studios announced that it will release a free update to all Mortal Kombat 11 owners on the same day Aftermath launches. The free update will add new Stage Fatalities and four new Stages, including the Soul Chamber, Dead Pool, Kronika's Keep, and the RetroKade, a new arena where players can relive famous Stages from the Mortal Kombat past.

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath is available for purchase for $40 and will launch on PC and consoles on May 26. Keep in mind that this DLC requires the Mortal Kombat 11 base game. Also, those purchase Aftermath early will receive the Eternal Klash Skin Pack that features Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Frost skins. Last but not least, apart from the new story chapter and new playable fighters, Aftermath includes 3 new skin packs that will be released over time.
