Walmart listing hints at October launch for Windows 11

Microsoft has already shipped the very first build of Windows 11, so the testing program has started, yet nobody knows for sure when it’s supposed to come to an end.

The company says Windows 11 will be released later this year, but no further specifics have been provided. And yet, the company may have dropped some things that October is the month when Windows 11 could go live for the first devices, though once again, absolutely no confirmation has been provided.

But according to a listing on Walmart and discovered by WL, Microsoft indeed plans to launch Windows 11 in October, as the store says this is the month when the upgrade to the new OS would become available for the devices it sells.

New Windows 10 feature update coming too

Other than that, Microsoft has remained as mysterious as it gets, with the software giant promising to ship the upgrade to eligible Windows 10 PCs later this year.

“We’re also working with our retail partners to make sure Windows 10 PCs you buy today are ready for the upgrade to Windows 11. The free upgrade will begin to roll out to eligible Windows 10 PCs this holiday and continuing into 2022. And next week, we’ll begin to share an early build of Windows 11 to the Windows Insider Program – this is a passionate community of Windows fans whose feedback is important to us,” Microsoft said in its original announcement.

The timing seems to make sense, as Microsoft typically ships new Windows feature updates in October or November. And as it turns out, despite the debut of Windows 11 in the fall of the year, Microsoft still plans to introduce the new Windows 10 version 21H2 as well, though it’ll be interesting to see if the company sticks with a smaller service pack-like release or bring major new features to its current OS as well.
