Hands-On Mobile, the famous American wireless entertainment company, has prepared a new and cool service for all the mobile users who like art: mixtART - coming this fall to a handset near you(r pocket).

What's mixtART all about? As Hands-On puts it, with mixtART consumers will be able to buy "original works of art", via SMS, and use them as wallpapers for their phones.

For the moment, there are only few wallpapers that can be bought from the official mixtART website, but starting this fall, users will find a wide range of arty stuff to choose from.

Among the artists that are collaborating with Hands-On in creating "art for cell phones", the following were mentioned: Patrick Ma, Jon Burgerman, Buff Monster, Patricio Oliver, Ekundayo and Dave Correia, Alex Pardee, Brent McHugh, Astro and Noferin.

Many of the mentioned artists are attending the San Diego ComiCon fair (which debuted yesterday and will end on July 27), where users can not only meet them in person, but also buy wallpapers for their precious handsets.

"More and more independent artists are discovering the benefits of digital media to promote their art to the public, and mobile delivery is the perfect opportunity for them to share their work with a vast, diverse audience. The artists we are currently working with have exemplary portfolios, and we are looking forward to offering additional creative wallpapers to mobile customers on a monthly basis," stated Michael Temkin, Chief Technology Officer at Hands-On Mobile.

mixtART will be available in the US, for the subscribers of AT&T (including Dobson), Verizon Wireless, Sprint (including Nextel and Boost), T-Mobile and Alltel. Hands-On didn't mention anything about the availability of mixtART in other countries, but if the service proves to be successful then it will probably go outsides the States too.
