After having released a few MIUI 7 versions in the last couple of months, Xiaomi has finally launched the first MIUI based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system.

MIUI 7.2.8.0 is now available for download in China, but it can only be installed on the Xiaomi Mi 3 or Mi 4. Also, this is not the global version, so unless you own the Chinese versions of these smartphones, you won’t be able to upgrade yet.

Not much is known about the changes included in the update, but Xiaomi Mi 3 and Mi 4 owners will be pleased to know that they will be able to refer to Updater application on their devices for the full changelog.

Xiaomi also confirmed a few fixes that have been included in this update, such as the fact that Cortana was deleted after an update and couldn’t be installed again from the App Store. This issue has been addressed in this update, so users shouldn’t have any problems with that.

Also, Xiaomi announced that it’s been able to fix an error with customized themes after they have been shared to other people.

The Chinese ROM does not contain any Google applications or services

Keep in mind that the Chinese ROM does not include any Google apps and services, so if you want any of those, you should wait for the global ROM. Without Google Play Store, you will need to use the application store offered by Xiaomi.

The Chinese handset maker did not offer any details on when the MIUI 7 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be available for international versions of its smartphones, but we suspect it shouldn’t take too long.

You can download the Recovery or Fastboot ROMs from Xiaomi’s official forum. However, make sure you know how to flash the Chinese ROM before updating though.
