Video game developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts are working hard to put the finishing touches on Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, and the two companies are offering fans of the series two new videos that show off the movement and the combat mechanics.

There's some cool gameplay to see for all those who want to get a solid image of how playing Faith in the coming video game will feel like and the developers are saying that they want to offer a mix of speed and flexibility that allows the character to easily navigate the complex city of Glass.

Fast reactions, jumps that move from building to building and slides that can get through tight spaces are all part of the player's arsenal, and the protagonist also features a new quickturn that gives her the option of turning either 90 or 180 degrees very fast.

Zip wires, ledge balancing, climbing and some items that expand Faith's abilities are also shown, and the combat seems both fluid and challenging in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst.

Gamers will have to build up Focus to stay invulnerable and, when that fails, mix and match their attacks to keep enemies off balance or stun them.

The story of the game will be centered around the origins of both Faith and the corruption that is affecting Glass.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will be offered on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 on May 24 in North America and two days later in Europe.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will be entirely open world

DICE is using Frostbite 3 to create a city that can be explored at will by gamers, with none of the restrictions associated with the first title in the series, although the story might impose some limits on their freedom from time to time.

Faith will no longer be able to use any firearms, which slowed down the flow of the action and made no sense given Faith's pacifist outlook and the developers also promise more spectacular parkour moves to employ during the most difficult situations.

For gamers who want to compete with friends, the game will include classic leaderboards but also a new asynchronous multiplayer experience that allows players to change the state of the world via their actions.

The development team at Electronic Arts are also planning to launch a closed beta for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst that will allow fans to see some of the main mechanics of the title.
