Double Tap to Wake coming for Lumia 950 and 950 XL

Opinions are still divided on whether the Lumia 950 and 950 XL are worthy devices for Windows 10 Mobile fans, but no matter what side they’re on, most users have criticized the lack of one of the most popular features on Windows Phone devices: Double Tap to Wake.

This feature allows users to wake devices by simply double-tapping the screen, but surprisingly, it’s not available on new flagships running Windows 10 Mobile, such as the Lumia 950 and 950 XL.

But there’s evidence that Microsoft’s working to bring this feature on new Lumia devices too and we’re hearing that the company is already testing it on some internal builds. In fact, a screenshot posted by DrWindows shows the Double Tap to Wake option already implemented in an unreleased Windows 10 Mobile build, so we might not be too far from the moment when all users could get it.

Your vote counts

Furthermore, Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, said in a tweet that users should vote for this feature should they want it on their devices, which is a sign that Microsoft is still evaluating whether it’s worth working on developing it or not.

Most likely, the Double Tap to Wake capability will make its debut in Windows 10 Mobile in a future preview build, allowing insiders to try it out before everyone else getting it with the Anniversary Update coming in the summer.

At this point, information on why exactly this feature isn’t already available in Windows 10 Mobile is kind of limited, with some people close to the matter suggesting that new Lumia phones had power management issues, so battery life was dramatically impacted in case Double Tap to Wake was activated.

Right now, Microsoft might be looking into ways to address these problems, so it’s probably just a matter of time until insiders in the fast ring get it.
