New SKUs spotted in the latest Windows 10 SDK

The most recent Windows 10 SDK provides us with a glimpse into the future SKU lineup of the operating system, and by the looks of things, Microsoft has prepared quite a few surprises.

First and foremost, there are now two different versions of the Windows version aimed at HoloLens. The two are called PRODUCT_HOLOGRAPHIC and PRODUCT_HOLOGRAPHIC_BUSINESS.

While at first glance this doesn’t say anything about the future of HoloLens, the existence of two different SKUs, one of which seems to be particularly aimed at businesses, appears to suggest that Microsoft is also working on two versions of the device.

Rumors about a consumer version of HoloLens have been swirling around the web for a while, and now this finding indeed seems to suggest that Microsoft may get closer to finalizing it.

However, as Neowin notes, there’s also a chance that Microsoft is just building two different SKUs in order to provide customers with an operating system that better addresses their needs and not necessarily for a consumer-oriented version of HoloLens.

Andromeda still there

Also interesting is that the SKU includes a reference to PRODUCT_IOTENTERPRISE, which judging from its name, it could be just an enterprise version of Windows 10 IoT. Only that Windows 10 IoT Enterprise already exists, so Microsoft could be considering several changes in this lineup as well.

The SKU lineup also mentions other Windows 10 versions that we’re still dreaming about, including Andromeda, which could be installed on the eagerly-anticipated Surface Andromeda possibly launching next year. Windows 10 Lite shows up once again, and this confirms that Microsoft hasn’t given up on the idea of building a lightweight operating system.

But as it happens with every unconfirmed discovery, things could change overnight at any point before launch, so it remains to be seen how the SKU lineup would change in the coming months.
