Microsoft has already announced that Windows 10 Mobile would launch in early 2016, but new information provided on Twitter account @LumiaHelp reveals that the rollout is scheduled to start “soon.”

No specifics have been provided, but as spotted by WMPU, the Redmond-based tech giant has also updated the Lumia support page to state that some devices, such as those with less than 8 GB of internal storage, will not get all features of the new Windows 10 Mobile operating system.

“We're working to make Windows 10 available to eligible Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1 as an upgrade. If your Lumia is eligible for the upgrade, we'll let you know when it's ready. 8 GB of internal memory required. Like any upgrade to a new operating system, not every phone will support all possible Windows 10 features. Certain features and experiences will require more advanced future hardware,” the Lumia page mentions.

Rollout to take place in waves

It's not yet confirmed, but it appears that the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will be shipped to Windows Phone devices in stages, so some devices will get it sooner than others.

It's believed that the previous Windows Phone flagships, namely the Lumia 930 and 1520, as well as the latest models, such as the 640 and 640 XL, will be included in the first wave, while others could have to wait a little bit longer to get the new operating system.

At the same time, Microsoft's also expected to provide owners of Lumia 950 and 950 XL with an update as well, as the two models shipped with Windows 10 Mobile out of the box. The company will thus bring all devices up to date and running the same OS version.

For the moment, no specifics are available regarding the release date of Windows 10 Mobile, but it's pretty clear that we're getting very close to the moment when this will happen. So make sure you keep your Windows Phone device charged daily because every day could be the day.
