Microsoft has recently shipped a new round of updates for Windows devices, and now the software giant is warning that December will witness the end of support for another Windows 10 version.

This time, it’s Windows 10 version 21H1 the one that is getting the axe, with Microsoft emphasizing that once the deadline is reached, no further security updates will be released.

This time, absolutely all editions of version 21H1 are reaching the end of support, so if you still run the operating system, the best option right now is to upgrade to a newer release.

The approaching end of support for Windows 11 version 21H1

The most recent version of Windows 10 is version 22H2, with the rollout happening as we speak. Needless to say, devices that are already on Windows 10 can upgrade to version 22H2 completely free of charge.

“All editions of Windows 10, version 21H1 will reach end of service on December 13, 2022. After December 13, 2022, these devices will not receive monthly security and quality updates. These updates contain protections from the latest security threats. To continue receiving security and quality updates, we recommend that you update to the latest version of Windows,” the company explains.

On the other hand, if your device is running Windows 10 and is eligible for the upgrade to Windows 11, installing the company’s latest operating system is a much better option. Windows 11 is Microsoft’s main focus right now, with Windows 10 to continue to be supported until 2025.

After this day, Windows 10 would no longer receive any other security updates and improvements, regardless of the version running on your device. Windows 11 is Microsoft’s main focus in the long term, though people familiar with the matter recently revealed that a potential Windows 12 might also be in the works, possibly due to launch in 2024.
