The company tells customers to update ASAP

Microsoft has recently released a reminder that several older versions of Visual Studio are about to reach the end of support, therefore telling customers it’s time to update to a supported release.

In other words, if you’re still on an older version of Visual Studio, Microsoft will soon stop rolling out updates and security patches.

And the only way to make sure you’re not missing the latest improvements is to just move to a newer VS version that continues to be supported.

April 2022 is the month when Visual Studio 2017, Visual Studio 2019 version 16.7, and Visual Studio 2019 Preview Channel will reach the end of support.

Visual studio will enter the extended support period when it’ll only get security updates until April 2027. Visual Studio 2019 version 16.7, on the other hand, is being ditched entirely, and users need to move to version 16.11 or to Visual Studio 2022.

Update as soon as possible.

Visual Studio 2012 will also reach the end of support on January 9, 2023.

“Visual Studio 2022 is our most productive IDE ever, and we recommend all our customers upgrade to it, especially those using the Community Edition. With Visual Studio 2022 we offer three channels: Preview Channel so that you can provide early feedback on the latest features,” Microsoft explains.

“The Current Channel provides these new features when they are ready for widespread use. Users should install each minor update of the Current Channel as it is released to stay in support. Finally, for the Enterprise, Professional, and Build Tools Editions, we offer Long-Term Servicing Channels (LTSC) to give your development team more control over when you adopt new feature releases. We provide quality and security fixes for LTSC for 18 months after release.”

Visual Studio 2022, which is now the recommended destination for most users, will reach the end of support in January 2032.
