Feedback Hub submissions now asking for further details

If there’s anything good coming out of the Windows 10 version 1809 fiasco it’s certainly Microsoft making changes that should help prevent critical bugs from reaching production devices in the future.

And one way to do this is by requesting users to rate bug severity when submitting feedback in the Feedback Hub.

Microsoft is updating the Windows 10 Feedback Hub app, which has become the main feedback channel on the operating system, to include details about the severity of the issues that are being reported to the company.

Whenever a new submission is filled within the Feedback Hub, users are now being asked “how do this problem impact your experience,” with five ratings between 1 and 5 – 5 being the most critical.

This way, the company hopes that it can prevent issues like the one that led to users losing their files after upgrading to Windows 10 version 1809, though it goes without saying that it’ll be a challenge to convince users to actually be reasonable when evaluating the impact of a certain bug.

“We believe this will allow us to better monitor the most impactful issues even when feedback volume is low. To get this to customers as quickly as possible, we have enabled this feature in English only. The team is working to bring it to more languages soon,” Brandon LeBlanc announced this week.

Windows 10 version 1809 was released to users on October 2 as a manual download from Windows Update, but the rollout was suspended only a few days later due to an issue causing data loss on specific systems.

The new OS feature update removed users’ files in libraries during the upgrade, with no backup created during the process, basically making the recovery very difficult. The rollout has since resumed for insiders, who are now required to try out the fix before the October 2018 Update becomes available for everyone once again.
