The Android version received this feature a long time ago

One of the most useful Microsoft applications for iOS devices, the Translator, has just received a major new feature that has been available on Android OS for quite some time now - offline translation.

In addition to text, conversation and image translation already available, Microsoft now includes support for offline and webpages translation. This means that iOS users won’t have to connect to the Internet when they want to translate a text. However, in order for the new feature to work, users will need to download the required offline language packs.

According to Microsoft, “new offline language packs use the same Deep Neural Network technology we recently introduced in the Microsoft Translator app for Android. Deep Neural Networks, also known as Deep Learning, are a state-of-the-art machine learning technology that has been used for almost a year by the Microsoft Translator online cloud service to deliver high-quality translations to Microsoft Translator apps.”

Lots of new downloadable offline language packs added too

Another important new feature included in the latest update for Microsoft Translator is the addition of 34 new languages to the list of offline languages supported by the application on both Android and iOS platforms.

Microsoft has also announced that, aside from the new downloadable offline language packs, the application for iOS now comes with a new Safari extension that allows users to translate web pages within the browser.

In order to take advantage of this feature, users must enable the extension whenever they find themselves on a webpage in a language that they don’t understand. The extension is listed as “Microsoft Translator.”

With the addition of this Safari extension and all downloadable offline languages, iOS users should be covered with the translation when they visit other countries or need information that is provided in a language they don’t understand.

If you don’t have the application yet, you can now download Microsoft Translator for iOS for free via App Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices running iOS 8.0 or later.
