14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just announced that its Groove Music for Windows 10 Mobile devices has just received a major update that adds lots of new features and improvements.
But the most important change is the fact that Groove Music application is now universal across Windows 10 devices, something that Microsoft has been planning for quite a while.
“Groove is now truly universal on Windows 10 across mobile and PC. The build you’ve been using on mobile is now the same build you’ll get on PC going forward. For those of you who’ve asked if the PC version of Groove would ever get features like gapless playback, today’s the day!” states Microsoft in a blog post.
As mentioned earlier, the update also adds some improvements to playback, including extra telemetry to playback errors so that Microsoft can continue to enhance the application. Also, when unplayable tracks appear in Now Playing, developer properly gray them out and jump over them without displaying an error.
Many mobile-related new features and fixes
On mobile, background art fills the screen so that it’s seen under the system icons at the top. Furthermore, users can now “Refine” to filter their collection by source (OneDrive, Pass, Purchased, On this device only).
Developers have also added jumplist support for collection views organized by release year. The “hotlinks” in Album review and Artist bios now work on mobile. There’s a new simple lockscreen setting for Continuum, as well as lots of other styling updates for this unique feature.
Groove Music users will be pleased to know that, when viewing, they can also view their work by albums or songs. In order to do that, simply select “Songs view” when viewing an artist.
Last but not least, radio stations can now be started from albums and songs, and the application will start the radio based on the artist.
According to Microsoft, the latest update for Groove Music is available for Insiders first, but developers will send it to the Store for everyone else very soon.
On the PC, Windows Insiders from the Fast ring will get the update today whereas on mobile, Windows Insiders from the Fast and Slow rings as well as Release Preview rings will receive the updated Groove Music today.
