The Definitive Edition of Age of Empires III has been in development for quite a while. The good news is real-time strategy fans won't have to wait too long to get their hands on the game. Microsoft recently revealed the Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition will be released on October 15.

As far as the price goes, Microsoft announced that the Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition will cost just $15 / €15 / £11 during the pre-ordering period (25% discount included). Xbox Game Pass for PC and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will receive the same discount on the Microsoft Store if they want to buy the game. Obviously, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be getting access to the game for free on launch day.

In the same piece of news, Microsoft introduced the Age of Empires: Definitive Collection, a bundle of all three Definitive Editions, which is now available for purchase for just $45. The first two games can be played for free through Xbox Game Pass for PC.

When it comes to improvements, Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition is by far the richest in the series. First and foremost, the game will get 4K graphics, rebuilt 3D assets, modernized UI, cross-play multiplayer, and fully enhanced soundtrack and audio.

Then, the game will include two new game modes and two new civilizations, the Inca and the Swedes. For game modes, Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition features a series of Historical Battles set within the period the game covers, as well as the so-called Art of War challenges.

With the addition of the two new civilizations – The Inca and The Swedes, Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition features 14 civilizations from across Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

Also, developer World's Edge revealed that it has worked directly with tribal consultants to accurately capture the uniqueness of Native American cultures, so veterans of the series will find that some changes have been made to the Native American civilizations.

Although the game won't be launched until October 15, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can already pre-install the game. Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition is available for pre-order both through Steam and the Microsoft Store.
