The company filed DMCA takedown request against site

Windows 11 got leaked ahead of the official unveiling, and while everybody rushed to download the unofficial ISO and therefore try out the new operating system, Microsoft wasn’t very happy with the whole thing.

This is why the Redmond-based software giant has filed a DMCA complaint against a website that provided download links for the leaked ISO, basically confirming that Windows 11 is real.

Microsoft reached out to Google to remove the links to the said site, explaining that the page pointed to “a leaked copy of the unreleased Windows 11.” As reported by FossBytes, the site was based in India, while the DMCA takedown request was filed by Microsoft Japan.

The Windows 11 leak

While Microsoft has tried to take down the download links for the leaked version of Windows 11, it goes without saying that doing this is pretty much impossible given how much press the whole thing has received.

Windows 11 is without a doubt a surprise release, especially as Microsoft previously said Windows 10 was the last Windows version, with the company originally planning to focus exclusively on new feature updates. So the fall of 2021 was supposed to bring us a new Windows 10 feature update rather than a completely new operating system.

But Microsoft rolling out Windows 11 is something that made the headlines everywhere across the world, so when the leaked build made its way to the web, millions of users rushed to download it.

And while Microsoft may be able to take down some links, the leaked ISO made its way to so many other mirrors, so essentially, it’s pretty easy to try out this early build of Windows 11 if you know where to look, even despite all these efforts from Microsoft.

It’s not known if Microsoft filed DMCA takedown requests against other websites hosting download links for the leaked Windows 11 build.
