Right now, HDR is only enabled automatically

Windows 10 Mobile needs updates, that’s for sure, and as we’ve told you in our Lumia 950 XL review, there’s a lot to improve in the operating system before it’s ready for prime time. But the good thing is that Microsoft really seems to be keen on enhancing the platform.

A Microsoft executive has recently confirmed that Windows 10 Mobile will soon receive an update that will allow users to force HDR, as this particular feature can only be used with the automatic setting.

This means that when you take a photo, if HDR is available, the feature is automatically enabled by the operating system, but if detection doesn’t work correctly, then you are not allowed to manually activate this feature.

This is going to change with a future update, though, as Microsoft’s Imaging Chief Juha Alakarhu has confirmed in a statement for All About Windows Phone that a so-called “Force HDR” option will be included in Windows 10 Mobile sometime in the future.

No timing available

There is no information on when exactly this update could land, but it’s good to know that it’s coming, especially because Windows 10 Mobile is very close to getting the green light for the public launch.

Despite the fact that some users have already started receiving Windows 10 Mobile from their carriers, an official announcement from Microsoft is yet to come, but sources close to the matter suggested that it could actually land sometime this week.

Windows 10 Mobile is a free update for Windows Phone devices, with Microsoft previously saying that absolutely all Lumia models, no matter their hardware specifications, would get it.

But now it turns out that some handsets are removed from the list of compatible devices, so let’s just wait until the official announcement from Microsoft lands and only then find out who gets Windows 10 Mobile and when.
