14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has recently rolled out the very first Windows 10 Mobile Redstone build for new Lumia devices, thus starting a new chapter in the development process of the smartphone operating system, despite the fact that Windows Phone handsets are yet to receive the upgrade.
Specifically, only Lumia 950, 950 XL, 550, and now the 650 can install Windows 10 Mobile Redstone build 14267, as Microsoft wants to first test the operating system on these devices and only then ship it to all participating insiders.
Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, has confirmed in a tweet that the Windows team is already working on releasing Redstone builds to more phones and promised that this could happen “soon.” He hasn’t specifically mentioned what “soon” actually means, but insiders hope to see this build going live for their devices as soon as this week.
The Windows Phone upgrade version
And while the focus is now on the Redstone builds, the Windows Phone upgrade version is nowhere to be seen. Microsoft Mexico previously said in a Facebook post that the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade version for Windows Phone devices could launch on February 29, which means that we’re less than seven days away from the moment when this rollout could begin.
For the time being, it appears that not all devices would get the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade at the same time, as only select models could receive it in the first wave. It’s believed that Lumia 640, 640 XL, and the previous Windows Phone flagships, namely the Lumia 930 and 1520, have the biggest chances to be included in this original release.
There are lots of uncertain details right now, so don't take everything for granted. The fastest way to get Windows 10 Mobile on your phone is to join the insider program, and you’ll be many builds ahead of everyone else, especially given that Redstone builds are already shipping.
