To be available on other devices besides flagships

Continuum is among Microsoft’s top features for Windows 10 Mobile devices, and both the new Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL support it with the Display Dock available separately.

But despite the fact that everyone thought that Continuum would be a feature specifically aimed at high-end smartphones, it turns out that Microsoft wants to make it available on some other devices too, including those more affordable.

While it’s hard to believe that Continuum would ever work on low-end handsets that will launch with Windows 10 Mobile, expect the feature to support at least mid-range devices that have the necessary hardware requirements to run it.

WMPU claims that the next mid-range Windows 10 Mobile handset to see daylight could also feature Continuum, but Microsoft has refused to comment on this one right now.

Once thing is sure, though: Continuum won’t work on existing Windows Phone devices, and only new models that come with Windows 10 Mobile from the very beginning will have it. This means that you need to purchase a new phone if you want it, but fortunately, more affordable alternatives will soon be offered too.

What’s Continuum?

Continuum is a new feature available on Windows 10 Mobile that allows a phone connected to a Display Dock adapter to become a fully featured PC, mirroring the screen of the device on a bigger display, such as a monitor or a projector.

“Connect your Lumia 950 or 950 XL to a Display Dock and do more with an external monitor, a keyboard, and a mouse. Office apps and Outlook scale up to create a big screen-optimized work environment that makes you more productive. It’s a PC-like experience that’s powered by your phone,” Microsoft explains.

For the moment, Continuum is limited exclusively to universal apps, but there are plans to introduce support for Win32 software as well, but this feature is still in the works at the moment.
