The first big update for Windows 10 is due in November

It’s not a secret that Microsoft is planning to release a major update for Windows 10 sometime this fall, but thanks to a new report, we now have a name and a launch date.

Thurrott.com writes that Microsoft calls this upcoming release “Windows 10 Fall Update,” but on computers getting it, the name being used will be “Windows 10 November 2015 Update.” It will be released via Windows Update just like any other update, but there’s one major thing that needs to be noted here.

The Windows 10 Fall Update won’t come as a full build, as it usually happens in the case of the Windows Insider program, but as a regular cumulative update, so everyone should be getting it at the same time and install it easily with zero input.

The source claims that the update will be labeled as version 1511, where 15 stands for 2015, the year, while 11 for November, the month.

Only small feature improvements

The first question that comes to everyone’s mind concerns the features to be included in this update. Unfortunately, the Windows 10 Fall Update won’t include anything significant, although there will be some changes, including an improved Media Creation Tool, new options for Cortana and Edge browser.

Another thing that’s worth keeping in mind is that once you install Windows 10 Fall Update, your computer will be brought completely up-to-date because of the fact that it’ll be delivered as a cumulative update. More, if you then reset your PC and restore to the original Windows install, you get the Fall Update and not the RTM. Users upgrading from Windows 7 or 8.1 will also get the Fall Update directly.

All PCs installing Windows 10 Fall Update will remain activated, so re-validation won’t be needed which is clearly very important for users who have already experienced activation issues.

Keep in mind that this report is not yet confirmed by Microsoft, so take it with a healthy pinch of salt until we hear something official.

Update: a new report claims that Windows 10 Fall Update could launch on November 2.
