Microsoft has revealed that the Windows 10 April 2018 Update rollout for HoloLens would kick off on June 26 via Windows Update and as part of an automatic process that makes everything pretty seamless.

HoloLens customers can already install the new Windows 10 version with the Windows Device Recovery Tool, but later this month, the automatic rollout will ensure a smoother upgrade without any other tweaks required.

The company confirmed the date in the change log of the most recent build release, emphasizing that while the WDRT install method would delete your data, the automatic rollout will be the way to go for everyone looking to keep files untouched.

“Installing the Windows 10 April 2018 Update for HoloLens using WDRT will delete existing data, like personal files and settings, from your HoloLens. If you’d like to maintain your HoloLens data while updating, please wait for the automatic update, which will start rolling out to customers via Windows Update on June 26,” Microsoft said.

New RS5 build also released

The software giant released Windows 10 April 2018 Update for PC on May 30, while the automatic rollout via Windows Update started on May 8.

On HoloLens, the new Windows 10 version comes with a plethora of improvements, including auto-placement of 2D and 3D content on launch, fluid app manipulation to move, resize, and rotate 2D and 3D content without having to enter Adjust mode, upgraded Holograms and Photos app, File Explorer support to move and delete files just like on a PC, and support for MTP to allow the PC to access libraries on HoloLens for quick data transfers.

Microsoft has also released the very first Redstone 5 preview build for HoloLens. Windows 10 Redstone 5 build 17686 is available for users in the Fast ring, just like on PC, this time however without a changelog.
